INTRODUCTION

MAJ Michael D. Andersen enlisted in the United States Army in November of 2002, commissioned through Weber State University Army ROTC in May of 2008 as a Distinguished Military Graduate, then graduated the Ordnance Basic Officer Leaders Course in 2008. He attended many additional military courses, including the Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course and the Army’s Command and General Staff College.

 

MAJ Andersen earned a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Weber State University and a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville. 

His significant previous assignments include Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer for the 240th Quartermaster Supply Company in Bamberg, Germany; Commander of Charlie Company, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training Detachment; S-4 Group Support Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group; Director of Acquisitions, Logistics, and Technology for the 401st Army Field Support Brigade; Assistant Professor of Military Science at Utah State University Army ROTC; and the Battalion Support Operations Officer and Executive Officer for the Army Field Support Battalion in Alaska.

 

Most recently, MAJ Andersen was a Department Chair and Instructor at the Defense Security Cooperation University at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He was responsible for teaching the planning and processes by which the Department of Defense engages with Foreign Security Forces to build security relationships, provide access, and develop defense capabilities.

 

MAJ Andersen’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, as well as other service and achievement awards.

 

MAJ Andersen deployed three times to Afghanistan in 2005, 2010, and 2014 serving in positions at the squad, company, and brigade levels. He also completed an operational deployment to Bulgaria in 2009 to support Joint Task Force-East.

 

He is married to the former Randi Jacobson, and they have three children Samantha, Katherine, and Ethan.
