Overview

Graphic design is creative problem-solving. It brings together imagery, typography, color, symbols and technology to help people understand information and connect with ideas. EIU's Graphic Design B.A. builds a strong foundation in art and design before advancing into typography, visual communication, interactive media, motion graphics and professional portfolio development.

You will learn by making, revising and presenting work in dedicated computer and production spaces with access to Adobe Creative Cloud, digital photography, large- and small-format printing, vinyl cutting and binding equipment. Faculty bring active professional experience in areas such as branding, environmental graphics, exhibitions, motion and interactive media, and they work closely with students through critiques and project development. The B.A. is a strong choice if you want substantial design preparation while preserving room for a minor, second major or courses in another field. Student organizations such as Blueroom Magazine, campus employment, exhibitions and connections with alumni and design professionals help you build experience and a portfolio for careers in branding, print, web, user experience, motion, advertising, social media and more.
