Any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in courses at Eastern Illinois University can use the services of the Writing Center. We help students of all levels and from all disciplines at any phase of their writing. Graduate assistants from the Department of English serve as tutors in one-on-one sessions, aiding writers in brainstorming ideas, developing thesis statements, organizing information, and improving grammar, spelling, and word choice. Tutors are familiar with both MLA and APA documentation styles.
Students are encouraged to bring assignments as well as any drafts of their work, either on paper, a diskette, or a flash drive. We have a library of writing textbooks and style manuals for student and faculty use and also provide handouts on grammar, punctuation, and documentation methods. We are also happy to provide instructors with orientations about the Writing Center at any time during the semester.
The staff of the Writing Center is always ready to sit down with you and your paper. The Writing Center is in room 3110 (the northeast corner, third floor) of Coleman Hall. Students can call 581-5929 for an appointment or drop in during regular business hours. Please note that the Writing Center is closed on all university-approved holidays.
