Celebration 2009 is May 1-3!

CelebrationArtists, musicians and those who love the arts will converge on the campus of Eastern Illinois University for Celebration: A Festival of the Arts the weekend of May 1-3. The festival takes place in the Library Quad next to the new Doudna Fine Arts Center.

A tradition on the Charleston campus since 1977, the three-day Celebration offers a wide range of arts activities for visitors of all ages. Check out the schedule of events.

On Friday, Celebration’s programming is planned specifically with Eastern's students in mind. Activities begin at 11:30 a.m., when the food booths open and the first band on the outdoor stage begins to play.

On Saturday and Sunday, Celebration features a great lineup of arts programming. The fine arts fair features a unique array of artisans selling hand-crafted works of art ranging from jewelry and stoneware to paintings and sculptures. Other activities include an International Fair, a sand sculpture demonstration, delicious food, children’s art activities, storytelling, and lots of live music.

Celebration is also a great place for children, thanks to a great lineup of children’s activities designed to expose young visitors to the arts.

Admission to Celebration is free, and the grounds are handicapped-accessible. Mark your calendar for May 1-3 and make plans to attend Celebration: A Festival of the Arts. For information, call the Festival Planning Office at 217-581-2113 or drop an e-mail to decrews@eiu.edu.
