Unique Sport Managment Opportunities

Sport Immersion Field Trip

The Sport Immersion Field Trip will allow students the opportunity to travel to view sport industry venues and museums off campus as part of their educational learning experience. Not only will students be able to view the venues, but they will also be able to meet professionals within the organizations in which they hope to find jobs. The Student Sport Immersion Field Trip will be hosted by the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Department and sport management students who are Junior, Senior or Graduate status will be eligible to attend.

Women in Sport Industry Round Table

The Women’s Round Table is designed to bring prominent female sport industry professionals on campus to speak to EIU students who are interested in working in the sport industry. Topics covered will be gender-specific, and will focus on ways to overcome both perceived and real barriers that women face in the sport industry. The Women’s Round Table will be hosted by the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Department but will be open to any students and the community.

Don't take our word for it

"I graduated from Eastern Illinois in 2013 with my bachelors and 2014 with my masters and played basketball for the school as well. I enjoyed being in an environment that allowed me to learn and work hard and I felt the KSS program was well organized. I also enjoyed getting hands on experience by spending time in the ATP lab and doing adult fitness. It made going to classes fun. The KSS offered opportunities to help build my resume which I appreciated."

Sydney Mitchell (B.S. 2013, M.S. 2014)

"Without EIU, I would not have my first full-time job! Prior to my education and experience here, I did not know that Academic Services for Student-Athletes was even an opportunity. I developed great relationships with my peers and professors, and really felt as if I was an important part of the program instead of being just a number at a big university. My professors helped me with everything from internship opportunities, trips to different sport facilities, recommendation letters, and even encouraged me to Study Abroad in Winchester, England! I am very grateful to be able to work for the university that has helped me grow and learn so much."

Bethany McGinness (B.S. 2017, M.S. 2019)

"The decision to attend Eastern Illinois University will always be one of the best decisions that I will ever make. The relationships that I made, including those with my professors, paved the way for me to be the person I am today. I learned life lessons and I learned things that I incorporate into my daily tasks. EIU truly provided me the opportunity to grow as a person and to grow as a professional. A Morris, Ill., native, Olson graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and sports studies, and a minor in business administration. His brother, Ben, is the Yale defensive line coach. Olson resides in New Haven, CT with his fiancé, Emily Jones, a Charleston, IL native."

Jake Olson (B.S. 2016)

"EIU's classes prepared me by giving me a wide variety of ways to think outside the box while being creative and by requiring an internship in the sports management field must be fulfilled upon completing the program. A lot of things must be learned on the job by gaining hands on experience, and the required internship really helped to prepare me for the jobs I've had so far in the sports business.”

Eric Starks (B.S. 2014)
