Peggy Holmes-Layman received her doctorate in Leisure Behavior from the University of Illinois, as well as her master's degree in Therapeutic Recreation.  She is an Associate Professor and has taught university courses in therapeutic recreation and general recreation programs for over 13 years.  She also has several years of experience as a practitioner in therapeutic recreation, serving clients in long-term care, psychiatric, rehabilitation and physical disabilities settings.  She has presented and written on many aspects of the therapeutic recreation and leisure service field.
