Therapeutic Recreation

What is Therapeutic Recreation?
Therapeutic Recreation (TR) promotes independence and a meaningful quality of life. Through recreation programs, therapeutic recreation specialists help those with disabilities or chronic illnesses:
           

  • Learn new activities & develop life skills
  • Increase physical fitness
  • Elevate emotional health
  • Gain independence
  • Be included in community life

Job Opportunities in TR:

  • Full time professional positions
  • Summer jobs working in camps, recreation programs and on trips
  • Seasonal part-time jobs leading or assisting with recreation programs

The two major therapeutic recreation associations are ATRA and NTRS.
