Linguistic diversity is an exciting and ever-present reality in the 21st century. The TESL/TEFL minor prepares students to work with linguistically diverse populations both in the United States and globally. In addition to pre-service teachers, students from any major who wish to teach English as a Second or Foreign Language will gain both a theoretical foundation and real-world experience - a strong basis from which to pursue future certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
The core of the minor introduces students to first and second language acquisition and the structure of the English language. Students also will choose one methods course - either geared towards teaching in a K-12 school environment in the U.S. or teaching English as a foreign language abroad. The minor is rounded out with two electives chosen from variety of departments, allowing students to tailor the minor to their own professional goals.
