The 3D Studio Art B.F.A. is an immersive degree for students who think through materials, objects and space. After building foundations in drawing, two- and three-dimensional design, painting, sculpture and art history, you will complete extensive advanced work in ceramics, jewelry and metalsmithing, sculpture or a combination of these areas. Courses emphasize creative exploration, craftsmanship, design principles, safe studio practices and the ability to develop and explain a focused artistic direction.
EIU gives students access to spaces and processes that can be difficult to find at larger institutions, including wheel throwing and hand building, electric and gas kilns, metal forming, casting and enameling, wood and metal fabrication, a foundry and digital fabrication. Small studio classes allow faculty to know your work and guide your development over time. Professional-practice coursework, critiques, juried exhibitions, student art sales and a capstone B.F.A. solo exhibition help you learn how artists document, install and present their work. The Tarble Museum of Art, visiting artists, trips, student organizations and study abroad opportunities connect your studio experience with contemporary art and professional practice.
