We are surrounded by organizations in our daily lives. The Corporate Communication option provides students with the knowledge, values, perspectives and skills necessary to understand the roles, functions, and management of organizations. Communication is one of the top skills required to function successfully in modern organizations, and the Corporate Communication option teaches students how we use communication to organize.
While we treat organizations as entities with identities, values, and cultures of their own, we cannot lose sight of the fact that organizations are made up of people and are created and sustained by communication. Learning how communication works to create, sustain, and alter organizations provides a better understanding of how organizations and communication shape and affect our lives.
Students learn how to effectively communicate in a variety of organizational contexts and situations, and we emphasize the written and verbal communication skills that employers desire. The option also develops an understanding of how concepts such as identity, diversity, difference, or power function to influence our communication practices.
