Overview

EIU's 2D Studio Art B.A. offers serious studio development with the flexibility to connect art to other academic and career interests. You will build foundations in drawing, two- and three-dimensional design, painting, sculpture and art history, then choose upper-level work in areas such as life drawing, painting, watercolor, printmaking, graphic design and digital art. Studio courses strengthen technique, craftsmanship, visual problem-solving and the ability to develop and communicate ideas.

The B.A. includes fewer required studio hours than the B.F.A., leaving room for a minor, a second major or additional coursework that supports your goals. You might connect studio art with education, communication, business, psychology, history, digital media or another field. At EIU, small studio classes give you direct access to faculty feedback, while the Doudna Fine Arts Center provides dedicated drawing and painting studios, a non-toxic printmaking studio, computer labs and public exhibition space. Juried exhibitions, student art sales, museum access, visiting artists, field trips, student organizations and study abroad options help you build a portfolio and participate in a creative community.
