The multi-faceted Social Science Teaching degree programs provide training in the many areas of social studies (economics, geography, history, political science, psychology and sociology-anthropology) and is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to teach any of these subjects in Illinois secondary schools.
All programs lead to licensure in all areas of social science. All majors choose one area of concentration: Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology. They become part of that home department as well as part of the broader Social Science Teaching program at EIU. Our majors graduate with unlimited potential to improve their own lives and the lives of their students. In addition to teaching, degrees in social science teaching prepare students for graduate work in any of the social sciences and for a host of other careers, ranging from congressional aide to foreign service officer to public relations staffer to librarian.
