William McGown, PhD
INTRODUCTION
Dr. McGown became a member of the psychology department at EIU in 1970. He went on to finish his doctoral dissertation: “Field independence as a factor of time perception” in 1972.
During his years at EIU, Dr. McGown was an early pioneer of computers in the classroom and often served as the “go to guy” regarding emerging educational technology. His research interests included animal learning, instrumentation for behavioral sciences relating to computer applications in psychology and statistical applications. Dr. McGown frequently collaborated with fellow colleague, Dr. Boyd Spencer on research projects.
Additionally, Dr. McGown served as a statistical consultant at WAPORA, Inc., an international environmental consulting firm. He also held the position of User Services consultant at the Computation Center at EIU. After his retirement in December 1995, Dr. McGown relocated to Ocean Springs on the gulf coast of Mississippi.
