Maurice W. Manbeck, PhD

INTRODUCTION


Dr. Manbeck came to EIU in 1957 as Registrar. He went on to become Dean of Records and Associate Dean of Junior College Relations. Dr. Manbeck joined the psychology department in 1972 as an assistant professor. His dissertation was titled: "A study of critical incidents in effective secondary school teaching as conceived by pupils and faculty."

Dr. Manbeck's research interests included veterans as evidenced by his 1953 research article titled: "Why Veteran's change registration in courses." He was himself an army veteran of WWII, having served in Europe and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel prior to his service at Eastern.

Dr. Manbeck served as a board member and fund drive chair for the American Red Cross. He was also an active member and past president of the United Way. Dr. Manbeck passed away in 2008 at the age of 90.
