Linda Leal, PhD

INTRODUCTION


Dr. Leal received her graduate training in developmental psychology at Tulane University. After two years as visiting assistant professor at the University of New Orleans, she joined the psychology department at EIU in 1985 as coordinator of the two semester sequence of courses for Introduction to Psychology.

During her years at EIU, Dr. Leal also taught courses related to child development, children with exceptionalities, and gender. Her research interests included cognitive development, developmental disabilities, and gender-related topics. Dr. Leal also was a member of the Women's Studies faculty on campus and served as coordinator for the Women's Studies Council from 1994 to 1996.

In recognition of her teaching, scholarship, and service, Dr. Leal was awarded the Ringenberg Award from the College of Sciences in 2006. Dr. Leal retired from EIU in 2012.
