Todd M. French is the Applied Tuba/Euphonium Instructor at Eastern Illinois University.  Along with his duties as the Applied Tuba/Euphonium Instructor, Dr. French also teaches brass methods, brass literature and pedagogy, conducting, brass chamber coaching, and actively performs with the EIU faculty brass quintet. He is an active recitalist and adjudicator, and presents master classes across the Midwest.

Prior to joining the faculty at Eastern Illinois University, Dr. French served as an Associate Instructor of Brass Techniques at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He also held faculty positions as Applied Tuba/Euphonium Instructor at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and Low Brass Instructor at Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, California.

Dr. French’s performance career includes serving as principal tuba and soloist with the U.S. Seventh Fleet Navy Band (Japan) and Navy Band San Diego. He has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Omaha Symphony, the Lincoln Symphony, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Dr. French has performed with Jason Marsalis, Leann Rimes, Marvin Hamlisch, Neal Sadaka, The Celtic Women, and performed on Garrison Keillor’s, "A Prairie Home Companion." Along with tuba, Dr. French is an accomplished bass trombone player. He has toured with The Jimmy Dorsey Big Band, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, and the Broadway touring show, “Rag Time.”

Dr. French received his Doctor of Music from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He also holds a Master of Music from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. French’s teachers include Daniel Perantoni, Anthony Kniffen, Craig Fuller, Scott Anderson, David Jacobsen, and Thomas McGrady.
