Research & Creative Interests

The fiber techniques that I use, primarily twining, looping and netting, are drawn from the ancient craft of basketry. In my work, I tie string together, interweave fibers, lash sticks, and construct nets to create a sculptural expression of my embodied experiences. The mixed-media fiber objects I make explore the dichotomies: eternal and ephemeral, strong and delicate, masculine and feminine, free and captive, old and young, living and dead. These ineffable, somatic memories held by the body are potent, penetrating, and enduring.
