Hey, my name is Maher and I’m a junior involved in a couple different facets of student media here at EIU. I am a sports reporter for The Daily Eastern News and have worked vividly on the beat of the men’s soccer team, basketball team, and baseball team while also covering football and volleyball. In the task of covering those programs, I talk to athletes and coaches on the daily to try my best to understand all parts of their game and the way their teams run. My main role in student media is with News Watch as a sports anchor, news anchor and producer. In that position, I anchor sports and news on our nightly newscast that is run at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. I anchor every day of the week and am responsible for writing sports stories and editing all sports video that will be presented in the show that night. As a reporter, I also shoot all my own video used such as the local high school games and Eastern sports covered. Student media at EIU has given me the opportunity to gain more experience in three years than any other school could. mwkawash@eiu.edu
