Charlotte Pence’s interdisciplinary approach to research and creative work discovers the connections between seemingly dissimilar subject matter. Her textbook The Writer’s Path applies creative writing strategies to the composition classroom.   The Poetics of American Song Lyrics (University Press of Mississippi, 2012) is an anthology exploring the intersections between poetry and song lyrics. Her award-winning poetry also features an interdisciplinary focus; in her chapbook Weaves a Clear Night (Flying Trout Press, 2011), Pence recontextualizes Greek myth into a contemporary romance; in The Branches, the Axe, the Missing (Black Lawrence Press, 2012). Her first full-length poetry collection, Many Small Fires, was released in 2015 Black Lawrence Press.

Pence's poems and non-fiction essays have been widely published by Kenyon Review Online, North American Review, Rattle, Ninth Letter, Tar River Poetry Review, Southern Poetry Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Denver Quarterly, and The Southern Poetry Anthology.
