Mary Dwiggins has a B.A. and M.A. from Eastern Illinois University and has done graduate work at Illinois State University concentrating in children's literature and narrative theory. Prior to coming to Eastern, she taught at Lakeland College and Millikin University where she taught many classes including children's literature, hypertext novels, and freshman writing. Currently she teaches freshman writing.

Her academic interest includes children's literature, especially picture books, comic books and popular culture, and hypertext theory and its implications for freshman writing. She is currently researching local stories involving the orphan train and broomcorn Jonnies which will be incorporated in a young adult novel. She enjoys gardening, writing, and "hanging out" with her husband and three grown children.
