LeAnn Akins has a B.A. and M.A. from Eastern Illinois University. She has taught freshman writing at EIU since 1997 and has served as a Unit B representative for the English Department’s Composition Committee, a reader for the University’s EWP Review Panel, and an education advisor for EIU’s Alpha Psi Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma. Prior to joining the faculty at Eastern, she taught at various other institutions including Lake Land Community College, Olney Central College, Kankakee Community College (Upward Bound Program), and Smarthinking.com.

In addition to teaching, LeAnn Akins has extensive training and experience in grant writing. Grants written/awarded include state, federal, and private grants. She has also led Grant Writing Seminars at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL.

LeAnn Akins has reviewed and edited numerous composition textbooks for such companies as McGraw-Hill, Bedford/St.Martin’s, Pearson/Longman, Thomson, and Houghton Mifflin.
