PART I: QUALITATIVE INFORMATION

    • Accreditation reports/results: --January 16, 2002: Master's program found to be in substantial compliance with each of the 12 Guideline Standards of the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC).
      --July 11, 2002: Specialist's program found to be in substantial compliance with each of the 12 Guideline Standards of the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC).
      --August 2002: National Policy Board for Educational Administration conferred national recognition on EIU's administrator preparation programs for successful completion of an NCATE affiliated 2001 review.
  2. Active student learning opportunities --Practicum (M.S.): This course provides students with clinical experiences in educational administration and organization under the direct supervision of a practicing administrator and a university professor. The practicum student is required to log 120 hours in administrative experiences at the local school. In addition, practicum students are required to complete five major projects (opening/closing school year, finance, three classroom observations, creation of an administrative resume, and a reflective analysis of the practicum) and 20 activities in four administrative areas (instructional leadership, development/supervision of curriculum, organization/coordination of academic programs, and leadership/school management). (Fall 2001- Spring 2002): 76 students completed

    --Field Study (Ed. S.): This course provides students with clinical experiences in educational administration and organization under the direct supervision of a practicing administrator and a university professor. The field study student is required to log 120 hours in administrative experiences at the local school. These experiences are designed to lead to competency in leadership and decision-making. In addition, field study students are required to select three of the five Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium standards and develop a project for each of the three selected standards. Field study students are also required to complete 20 activities in four administrative areas (instructional leadership, develop/supervision of curriculum, organization/coordination of academic programs, and leadership/school management). Students also complete a reflective analysis as the capstone experience for this course. (Fall 2001 - Summer 2002): 20 students completed
  3. Strategies to improve P-16 teaching and learning/Collaborative activities with business/industry --Annual EIU Administrators' Roundtable: Each year the Department of Educational Administration, the College of Professional Studies, and Regional Offices of Education #11 & #54 sponsor the Eastern Illinois University Administrators' Roundtable. The Roundtable is a series of three professional development workshops for K-12 administrators. The event annually draws 130+ participants.
    --NewLeaders Assistance Service (NLAS): NLAS is a professional development and mentoring program for new principals in six regions here in central Illinois. The program is sponsored by EIU, U of IL, and Regional Offices of Education #3, #9, #11, #12, #39, and #54.
