Jacques Cousteau was one of the most revolutionary scientists/explorers of our time.  His inquisitive attitude about our world’s oceans and undersea life paved the way for many important discoveries.  Without Jacques Cousteau, the aqualung would not exist, and scuba diving would not be what it is today. 

Not only did Cousteau make it easier for people to study underwater creatures and phenomenon, he also worked very hard to alert the world to the evils of water pollution.  He believed that it was wrong to damage the Earth’s water supply by dumping garbage, oil, or other toxins in the oceans and seas.  He tried to recruit other people to his way of thinking about the oceans, and now there is even a club (The Cousteau Society) that is devoted to informing the public of what is going on with the world’s oceans, and helping to conserve the resources that our Earth’s water gives us.

It is very important to study Jacques Cousteau and his contributions to our environment.  We need to be aware that there are things that humans have been doing for years that not only harm our water supply, but also hurt the animal and plant life that lives in the oceans and seas.  It is our responsibility to learn how we can conserve our resources, and the most important resource we have is water.  By learning about Jacques Cousteau, and the discoveries/contributions he made to the world of underwater science, we can begin to understand how we interact with marine life, and how we can work together to save it.
