Chief Joseph's Early Life

Chief Joseph was born in the Walla Walla Valley in 1840.  When he was a child
he was educated by  white missionaries. They educated him on the ways of the white man.  The missionaries did not stay long in the Walla Walla Valley before they were
asked to leave.  They were asked to leave because they were trying to force the white mans beliefs onto Joseph's people.  As he began to grow older Jpseph became a brave warrior and a great hunter.  However, he was a peaceful man only wanting for his people the opportunity to live in peace.  In 1871 Chief Joseph's father died and he became the Chief.
