She was born Nov. 15, 1887 in Sun Prairie, WI

(there were six kids in her family)

She dicided to be a painter before she was 12 years old

In 1909, she lived in Chicago and did free-lance commercial art work

From 1912 to 1916 she was an art supervisor in Texas

(she sent a letter and drawings to her old roommate)

In 1916 she bacame a "painter" by accident

She moved to New York in 1918

She married Alfred Stieglitz in 1924

(he owned 291)

In 1939 she was named one of the 12 most outstanding women of the last 50 years

She spent 3 months flying around the world in 1959

In 1963 she recieved the Creative Art Award

She travled down the Colorado River on a rubber raft in 1961

O'Keefe moved to New Mexico in 1949

(when her husband passed away)

she was 98 years when she died in 1986
