Ella Fitzgerald's Culture and Times
Many things happened while Ella sang.  First, her mother died during the Great Depression.  Second, she sang during World War II.  Last she sang during the Civil Rights Movement.  The Civil Rights Act was passed in the spring of 1965.

Ella is diagnosed with having a cataract, loses vision in one eye.
