Hunger Action Month

Hunger Action Month is our effort to have a conversation with our campus community about what people in our neighborhoods are facing in regards to food insecurity and hunger. Once we know what people are struggling with, we will start to talk about what we can do to get involved and to make a difference. Making the world bright, and putting food on the tables of everyone in this place we all call home, takes ALL of us!

November 2022 Events

Cooking 101
We are hosting a cooking class on how to prepare meals safely in your residence hall! We will be using food that is available through the EIU Campus Food Pantry. We will share tips and tricks on using the microwave and preparing a balance meal! Join us on Monday, November 7at 7pm and on Tuesday, November 15 at 6pm both in Klehm 2309.

Community Discussion
We are collaborating with the Booth Library to host a Community Discussion. We will have Dr. Michael Gillespie, Professor from Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology, along with 3 other food insecurity advocates from the Charleston community come speak about food insecurity at all ages of society. Attendees will have a chance to voice their ideas in a brainstorming session at the end of the panel discussion. Afterward we will have a chance to tour the EIU Campus Food Pantry! We are also encouraging attendees to bring a canned good to donate to the EIU Campus Food Pantry. Join us on Wednesday, November 16 at 5:30pm in the Booth Library, West Reading Room. RSVP here.

Dirty’s Fundraising Night
Tired of figuring out what you are going to have for dinner? Join us on Wednesday, November 16 from 5-8 PM at Dirty’s Bar and Grill for a tasty meal, AND make a difference for the local food pantries, including the EIU Campus Food Pantry. If you mention the give back event, Dirty’s will donate 15% back to the EIU campu food pantry. Good food, good cause!

Game Night
We are excited to partner with Alpha Gamma Delta sorority for EIU's own version of the interactive game show, "The Price is Right"! Join us for a fun night of laughter with friends as we raise money for the EIU Campus Food Pantry. Thursday, November 10 at 7:30pm in the Buzzard Auditorium.

Coin Wars
This is a great way to engage your entire campus department in making a difference in the lives of students on our campus! For every dollar donated, we can purchase $8 worth of food. All the money raised will be donated back to the EIU Campus Food Pantry where we serve over 200 EIU students each month! Also the department that donates the most money will be rewarded with a prize! If you are interested in having your department participate please email Victoria at: vjtegge@eiu.edu

Silent Auction
Stop by our tabling events throughout the month and bid on some great items in our silent auction! All proceeds will go towards the EIU Campus Food Pantry. Items range from gift cards to local restuants, to EIU swag & more!

Huddle Up Against Hunger
We are thrilled to partner with Athletics again this year to host a canned food drive to benefit the EIU Campus Food Pantry! This is a competition to see which EIU athletic team can bring in the most pounds of non perishable food items!
