Hunger Action Month is our effort each year to engage with the entire EIU campus community and share information about local food insecurity and poverty rates, and learn all the ways we can do something about those issues our neighbors face.
Faculty Chats: Join us for the Faculty Chat Hunger Action Month edition!! Dr. Michael Gillespie from the Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology department to learn more about hunger, poverty, and food insecurity on campus and in our community. This will be a great opportunity to learn from Prof G about a major issue for the EIU community, but also talk about resources available and what people just like YOU can do about it. Register to join us on Tuesday, November 17th at 12pm, here.
Can Collection: We will be collecting non-perishable canned goods to donate to a variety of Charleston Area Food Pantries. This is such an easy way to make sure people right here in our community have enough food to put on their table for themselves and their families. Stay tuned for dates and locations to drop off your canned goods!
Cinema and Conversation: This is a great way to Netflix and Fill….your brain with new information! From the comfort and safety of your living space you will watch a movie and then we will come together to have a conversation to look critically at the themes of race and how those same issues apply today. We will be watching the film “A Place at the Table” which is available on Youtube. Join us to talk about the themes of this film on Tuesday, November 10 at 12pm. Register here!
Gallon Jug Coin Collection: Your change can change the world. Literally. Did you know that if you go to the store you can get a canned good item for roughly a dollar, but a Food Pantry can take that same dollar and buy $10 worth of food. We will be collecting loose change and donating all of it to a food pantry here in Charleston! Empty out your pockets and help people fill up their plates.
Cooking in the Time of Covid: We are very excited to have partnered up with the HERC for this event! This virtual event will help spice up your dinner plans with an easy recipe to try. An ingredient list will be sent out a few days before the event so you are ready to go! Join us on Tuesday, November 17th at 6:45pm. Register here!
