EIU Program in Social Science Teaching

About the Program

What can I do with a major in Social Science Teaching?

  • Teach history, psychology, sociology, economics, government, and geography in IL schools—our majors (History with Teacher Licensure or Social Science Teaching) are licensed to teach all social sciences!

  • Continue on to graduate work in any of the social sciences.

  • The content knowledge, critical thinking, writing, and analytical skills of this major prepare you for a host of professional options beyond the high school classroom, whether in graduate school or a host of varied careers.

  • Pursue work as an advertising executive, advocate, analyst, archivist … or as a broadcaster, campaign worker, consultant, congressional aide, editor, foreign service officer, or foundation staffer … or as an information specialist, intelligence agent, journalist, legal assistant, lobbyist, personnel manager, public relations staffer, or researcher—the list goes on and on!
