Buffenmeyer Friend Scholarship

Description:  Established in 2014, this scholarship was created to support Charleston High School graduates and recognize the legacy of Jerry and Eloise Buffenmeyer (1951 and 1968). Eloise is a retired Charleston High School teacher. This scholarship also recognizes the legacy of the Buffenmeyer's daughter and alum, Susan Friend (1978), and granddaughter and alum, Jill Friend (2010). Criteria for selection are as follows: The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Career and Technical Education (with an emphasis in Business Education), Special Education, and/or Recreation Administration accepted to Eastern Illinois University. The recipient must be from Charleston High School with preference given to incoming freshmen. If no incoming freshman qualified, then a previous undergraduate recipient who continues to meet the criteria may be awarded the scholarship. The recipient must have an overall minimum 3.0 GPA on high school or college coursework. Financial need is not a consideration. The award shall be announced in the fall and paid in the spring semester to Eastern Illinois University to be first applied against costs (tuition, fees, housing, etc.) associated with the recipient attending Eastern Illinois University.The application period is open beginning September 15, 2015 through October 15, 2015.
