Scholarship History


L. Joyce Taylor Student Teaching Sch

Description:  Established in 2010, This scholarship has been established to offset the cost of student teaching expenses in order to overcome the financial barriers that exist on the way to becoming an excellent educator. The following selection criteria is as follows: The recipient must be a full-time student at Eastern Illinois University in a major leading to teacher certification, and must be in good academic standing. Recipients must have completed all requirements to become eligible to student teach and must be approved to student teach within the next 12 months after the award date. Financial need is a consideration. The application process for this scholarship shall include the submission by each applicant of a one-page essay outlining future educational and career plans. This essay should address how the applicant has overcome adversity, obstacles, or barriers in his/her life, and how he/she has experienced the impact of teaching in underserved populations prior to the application of this scholarship. Within the essay in the above criteria, the recipient shall demonstrate a commitment to teaching underserved populations. The recipient may be awarded this scholarship one time only.
