Established in 2012, this scholarship was created in honor of Donald and Ferne Rogers, both EIU educators. The scholarship will provide assistance to students during their student teaching semester. The scholarship will benefit students with high amounts of debt due to student loans and will be awarded to the student(s) during their student teaching semester. Criteria for selection are as follows: The recipient must be a full-time student accepted to Eastern Illinois University majoring in: Elementary or Middle Level Education with a concentration in math or science, Math with teacher certification, or Science with teacher certification. The recipient must maintain a GPA of at least 2.65. Preference shall be given to a student who is actively employed in an effort to pay for their own education. Financial need is a consideration. Students must show financial need demonstrated by taking out considerable loans to finance their education, verified through the Financial Aid Office. The recipient(s) may not be eligible to receive the award again. The scholarship must be awarded during the student teaching semester. The scholarship shall be selected and awarded by the College of Education and Professional Studies in odd fiscal years and by the College of Sciences in even fiscal years. The award(s) shall be announced in the Spring or Fall and paid in the Fall or Spring to Eastern Illinois University to be first applied against costs (tuition, fees, housing, etc.) associated with the recipient(s) attending Eastern Illinois University.
