Established in 2012, this scholarship was created to honor the life of Sabina McNutt while providing financial assistance to Eastern Illinois University students pursuing a Master's degree in Elementary Education. Criteria for selection are as follows: The recipient must be a full-time or part-time graduate student, majoring in Elementary Education, and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. Preference given to students pursuing a Master's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Reading and the Certificate in Reading Instruction. The recipient must maintain an overall GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. Financial need is a primary consideration. Applicants must write a one-page document describing their dedication to education, ambitions to reach goals, and demonstration of involvement with children, families, and communities. The award shall be announced in the Fall and paid in the Spring to Eastern Illinois University to be first applied against costs (tuition, fees, housing, etc.) associated with the recipient attending Eastern Illinois University. The minimum amount to be awarded is $500.
