Established in 1991, The Pierre Toussaint Journalism Scholarship was created to award a full-time freshman at Eastern Illinois University with financial need who is interested in studying Journalism. At the time of selection in the spring semester, the recipient must be a full-time freshman at Eastern Illinois University in good academic standing, majoring in Journalism, who has earned 12 to 18 credit hours at Eastern. The candidate must demonstrate financial need. Preference shall be given to, but not mandated, a culturally diverse and under-respresented student. The award shall be announced in the spring and paid in the fall semester to Eastern Illinois University to be first applied against costs (tuition, fees, housing, etc.) associated with the recipient attending Eastern Illinois University. Any remaining amount will be disbursed to the recipient.
