The fund was established for the legacy of Dr. Walter A. Klehm. Dr. Klehm had 32 years of teaching and administrative service to Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Klehm started in the Department of Industrial Arts, which later consolidated with Technology. Once the departments consolidated then Dr. Klehm became the Director and later Dean of the school.Nominations for the award shall be sought annually by the Committee from the entire faculty of the School of Technology. Nominations for the award shall be made under procedures to be determined by the Committee. Criteria for selection are as follows: The award recipient shall be majoring in Career and Technical Education, with an emphasis in Technology Education, accepted the Eastern Illinois University. The recipient must be an undergraduate student majoring in one of the following technology-related majors offered by the School of Technology who plans to pursue a career in technical education (e.g. high schools, vocational centers, community colleges, universities). The recipient shall be in good academic standing at EIU. Financial need shall be a criterion only to the extent determined by the Committee. Other criteria include personal qualities and participation in departmental activities. The recipient may be eligible to apply for the award again provided he/she continues to meet criteria. Payment of the award shall be made to the recipient upon the date of his/her re-enrollment in the University following the granting of the award.
