Assistant Professor in Psychology, School Psychology

The Psychology Department at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) has an opening for a full-time (9-month) Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2020. Duties include teaching graduate courses in school psychology and undergraduate courses in psychology, maintaining an active research program, supervising graduate student theses and practicum experiences, and participating in service to the department and university.

EIU offers NASP-approved specialist-level school psychology training with a scientist-practioner model. Research is an important component of our training program; all students are required to complete a thesis. Faculty research and professional involvement are also required.  The EIU program has been in place for over 40 years and has been an important source of practicing school psychologists in Illinois and across the country.  The program typically enrolls 10-12 students each fall with a total of approximately 25 students across the three-year program.

The department serves approximately 410 undergraduate majors and offers, in addition to the school psychology specialist degree, an M.A. in clinical psychology. The Department also houses a Psychological Services Clinic.

Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited or NASP-approved program, although ABD candidates will be considered.  Other requirements include demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college/university level and a commitment to research and scholarly work. Professional school psychology practice in school and or clinic settings and eligibility for Illinois certification, NASP certification, or Psychology licensure are preferred.

Assistant Professor in Psychology (Biopsychology or Behavioral Neuroscience)

The Psychology Department at Eastern Illinois University has an opening for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position in biopsychology or behavioral neuroscience. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2020.

Individuals applying for the position should hold a Ph.D. in biopsychology, behavioral neuroscience, or closely related areas (e.g., cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience). We are particularly interested in individuals whose research focuses on human neuroscience.

Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in psychology (e.g., biological psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and other areas of expertise, as well as areas of general need, e.g., research methods), advising, maintaining an active research program, and participating in service to the department and university. Individuals should also demonstrate commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence.

The Department of Psychology serves over 400 undergraduate and graduate students, having undergraduate programs in psychology (BA) and neuroscience (BS), as well as graduate programs in clinical psychology (MA) and school psychology (MA, SSP). The Department also has an undergraduate honors program, and serves approximately 200 minors in psychology and neuroscience.

Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) at the time of appointment. Other requirements include demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college/university level and a commitment to research and scholarly activity.

Assistant Professor of Psychology, Clinical Psychology

The Psychology Department at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) has an opening for a full-time (9-month) Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2020. Duties include teaching graduate courses in clinical psychology and undergraduate courses in psychology, maintaining an active research program, supervising graduate student theses and practicum/internship experiences, and participating in service to the department and university. Individuals should also demonstrate commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence.

The MA Program in Clinical Psychology is designed for students with career interests in master’s-level clinical practice or those who plan to obtain a doctorate. The foundation of the Clinical Psychology program is the scientist-practitioner model with training rooted in theoretical knowledge and ethical practice. The clinical training component provides students with instruction in empirically-based psychotherapies, assessment, and diagnosis, culminating in a practicum and a two-semester internship. The research focus of the program is designed to develop students’ critical thinking and quantitative skills, and includes coursework in research design and analysis, and a required thesis. The program typically enrolls 10-12 students each fall with a total of approximately 22 students across the two-year program. The department serves approximately 410 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department also houses a Psychological Services Clinic. Opportunities to direct the Clinic or the MA Program may become available in the future for those interested.

Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from an APA-accredited clinical psychology program (or closely related areas), although ABD candidates will be considered.  Other requirements include demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college/university level and a commitment to research and scholarly work.
