Equipment Checkout

Students and Staff have the ability to checkout a variety of technology from the GTC Lab which can assist with school assignments or other activities at EIU. If the checkout is done less than 5hrs before the closing of the GTC, the item must be returned by closing time unless an extension has been approved. Those that intentionally fail to return the items on time will be fined accordingly. If students need items longer than the time allowed they must bring a signed document from a faculty member, department chair, or contact the Director of the GTC and request permission. AV equipment must be turned in on time and the individual or organization will be wholly responsible for the condition of said items. Upon inspection of the returned items, all damages or replacement will be billed to the signer of the checkout agreement.

To clear any possible confusion, the GTC's role is to maintain a checkout system allowing users access to a finite stock of AV inventory. Due to limited staff, the GTC does not deliver the requested equipment. The person checking out the equipment is responsible for the transportation and setup of said items. Large events sponsored or hosted by EIU, may need guidance in how to manage complex audio video events. The recommendation is to contact Christopher Burke,, Sound Engineer at Doudna Fine Art Center.

If faculty or staff need items longer than the time allowed, an extension can be arranged.

Monday-Thursday: 7 a.m.- 9:45 p.m.
Friday: 7 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.
Saturday: CLOSED
Sunday: CLOSED

GTC Computer Lab Hours, Summer:

The GTC will be closed from May 5th to May 13th to do inventory and essential maintenance. On May 14th, the GTC will start operating on the following schedule:

Monday-Thursday: 7 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Friday: CLOSED (May be open only for special events)
Saturday: CLOSED
Sunday: CLOSED

Revised holiday schedules will be posted.


Below is a link to the GTC Equipment Reservation request. The submission of a request does not mean that the request will be fulfilled. Please make requests no less than 5-7 business days before the event is to be held due to the finite amount of equipment and staffing. Fulfillment or rejection of said request will be notified to the submitter via email by the director or assigned proxy.
