To be eligible for degree candidacy, applicants must meet all of the requirements for admission to the Graduate School. Please note: Admission to the program is competitive. Apply to the Program

  1. A minimum of 2.75 grade point average.
Please note: A cumulative GPA of 2.75 does not automatically guarantee acceptance into the Aging Studies master’s degree program.

    • For applicants who have graduated with a degree within the last 2 years, one reference letter should address past academic performance and one letter should address current or recent professional career performance.
    • For applicants who have graduated with a degree more than 2 years ago, at least one reference letter should address current or recent professional career performance and one letter can either address academic OR current or recent professional career performance.
  3. 1-2 page essay:
  1. Describe why you want to study aging studies and why EIU would be a good fit for your interests and professional career goals.
  2. Describe what you perceive to be your academic strengths and weaknesses and how you address your weaknesses.
