Booth Library at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston seeks a Dean of Library Services to provide coordination, supervision, and administration of programs and activities of the Library. The successful candidate must provide leadership in the development of mission and goals for the Library and make recommendations to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs on all aspects of library services including budgets, collections, development, and evaluation of faculty and staff. The dean will also be required to provide leadership for the Center for Student Innovation, as well as collaborate closely with the Faculty Development & Innovation Center (FDIC) and provide operational support for the FDIC and its staff.

Booth Library is located in the heart of the Eastern Illinois University’s campus and contains over a million volumes and more than 500,000 microforms. This is a 12-month renewable Administrative and Professional position. Candidates must possess one of the following credentials to be eligible for tenure: 1.) a Master’s degree in Library Services from an American Library Association-accredited program and a completed second master’s degree; or 2.) a Master’s in Library Services from an American Library Association-accredited program and a certificate of advanced study in library or information science; or 3.) an appropriate doctoral degree in an information science discipline. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualified candidates must also possess demonstrated planning and organizational skills, a commitment to community engagement, an interest in developing the library as an emerging, progressive living and learning space on campus, and strong communication skills. Candidates must have had direct experience with supervision of academic and civil service employees, experience managing varied and complex budgets, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity and experience in promoting inclusive excellence. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of two years of leadership experience as a dean, director, assistant dean, associate dean, head of a department, or in a similar role within a library or closely affiliated unit.

Proposed starting date to be negotiated with a Spring 2023 date preferred. The selected candidate will be expected to start no later than July 1, 2023.
