The Senior Staff Assistant is an integral part of the University Housing and Dining Services within the Residences Halls of Southquad. As staff members of University Housing & Dining Services, their primary responsibility is to provide support to the director(s) of their building(s) and to ensure residents’ needs (academic, social, etc) in the best possible manner.
Five basic roles of SSAs are:
Furthermore, SSAs are responsible to the Complex Director the Associate Resident Director.
Senior Staff Assistants serve as liaisons and resources to residents. They promote integration of all aspects of campus life and assist with establishing an environment in the residence halls that is supportive of the educational objectives of Eastern Illinois University.
Senior Staff Assistants are expected to display sensitivity to individual differences, acceptance of all students, and the ability to listen. Senior Staff Assistants are expected to serve as a positive role model and to exhibit consistency in performing their duties.
