Move-In Process

How do I sign up for a move-in date and time?

All students must pre-register for a move-in date and time. The move-in sign-up system will open at You will use your EIU NetID and password to log in. 

What if I need to request an Early Arrival Date?

Students must generally be part of an approved University-related early arrival group to be considered for an early move-in date.  The list of these groups can be found here If you need to request an early arrival date, but you are not part of one of these groups, you can also submit an Early Arrival Request.

Is the time I signed up for the time I should arrive on campus?

The time you signed up for is the time should plan to arrive at your on-campus residence to begin the move-in process.  

What if I need to change my date or time?

If you need to change your selected move-in timeslot, you may log back into the sign-up system to change your reservation.  After August 14, if you need to change the time (but keep the same date) you can just show up at the time that works for you!  After August 14, if you need to change the date, please contact us at 217-581-5111 or


Will there be assistance for move-in?  

EIU volunteers will be available to assist with move-in Thursday, August 18 only.  There will be blue carts available, and students are encouraged to bring their own dollies if possible. All persons coming to campus should be in good health and should follow all campus guidelines listed at   

After I have scheduled my appointment, what are the move-in steps? 

Step 1: Travel to your on-campus residence. When you arrive, please park in the parking lot until you have checked in and received your keys. 

Step 2: You should go to the front desk of your on-campus residence to check-in. Remember to bring a photo ID. At check-in, you will receive the following: 

  • Room Keys (Panther Card, driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID is required) 
  • Room Condition Report (RCR) to complete and return to be able to get your building key. The RCR highlights the condition of the room upon your check-in and is used for comparison when you check out at the end of the year. 
  • Directions to your assigned room 

Step 3: Bring your car around to the unloading area. 

Step 4: Retrieve a cart, if needed. A limited number of carts are available. Transport your belongings from the unloading area to your room. Park your car in the parking lot following posted signs.  

Step 5: After unloading your belongings in your room, return your cart to the lobby of your residence hall/area office.    


  • Bring a cart or dolly with you.    
  • Limit the number of people in an elevator.   
  • Able-bodied individuals not pushing a cart are asked to take the stairs.
