Individual Chapter Awards 2017

Please read the description of each award to make sure that the candidate is qualified. Chapters do not have to submit an application for each award. Letters of recommendations are highly encouraged. These letters can come from the president, chapter advisor, council advisor, faculty/staff member, etc.

Outstanding President

Outstanding President of the Year recognizes a council or chapter president for his or her dedication to the fraternity and sorority experience and EIU community. A sorority and fraternity president will be named the winner of this award. Chapters or individual members can nominate a president from the 2016 Academic Year.

Unsung Hero

The Eastern Illinois University fraternity and sorority community supports development of student leaders, but leaders aren’t always recognized or praised for their hard work and dedication. The recipient of this award may not have ever held a significant leadership role, but they have either helped their chapter or fellow students through hard times, potentially weathering significant hardship to help. They dedicate their service, time and energy without expecting anything in return.

Candidate qualifications

  • Helped his/her chapter, brothers/sisters or fellow student through difficult times or obstacles

  • Experienced great self-sacrifice to help the chapter or a specific person

Dr. Charles & Mrs. Sharon Eberly "Essence of Fraternal Values Award"

The Eberly Award recognizes an alumni group, chapter, fraternity or sorority member, or alumnus who through a specific act exhibits their fraternal values. The purpose of this award is to recognize leadership through what is right, and not necessarily what is popular, or the easy route to take - as that is what often times defines true leadership.

Chapters may nominate a specific chapter, individual member or alumnus, and/or an alumni group to receive this award. Chapters may nominate as many of the listed groups or individuals above as they deem necessary.

Outstanding Individual Community Service

The Outstanding Individual Community Service Award is for an individual chapter member who exemplifies service leadership.

Outstanding Chapter Advisor

The advisors to our fraternities and sororities are incredible resources. Even after graduating, they still feel the desire to contribute to the community that they themselves were once a part of. These individuals sacrifice their time in order to share personal experiences and knowledge about the importance of being a values-based fraternal organization. The Advisor of the Year not only encompasses all of these traits, but exceeds all expectations of the position and deserves special recognition for his or her continual commitment to the Eastern Illinois University fraternity and sorority community.

Each chapter can nominate one advisor within their chapter. Chapters can nominate other advisors within the Eastern Illinois University fraternity and sorority community as they see necessary.

Fraternity & Sorority Advocate

The Outstanding Fraternity and Sorority Advocate awards exists to recognize those outside of our fraternity and sorority community that serve as a means of support and advocacy for the continued existence of the college fraternal experience. While neither a current member nor advisor, these individuals assist in providing the encouragement necessary for fraternities and sororities to live their rituals and core values.
