Catalog Description

Dr. Sheila Simons, professor of health studies, currently serves as the coordinator for the graduate program in health promotion and leadership. The graduate program offers a Master of Science in Health Promotion and Leadership.

Employment of health educators is expected to grow by 37 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will be driven by efforts to reduce healthcare costs due to the implementation of recent federal legislation by teaching people about healthy habits and behaviors. Health educators work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, non-profit organizations, government, doctors’ offices, private business, and colleges.

The Health Promotion department is comprised of seven faculty with the academic credentials of doctorate in the area of health studies.

Admission to the graduate program in Health Promotion and Leadership requires an application to the Graduate School as well as an additional application to the Department of Health Promotion submitted through MyEIU. Please contact Dr. Simons or visit the program's website for program admission criteria.
