John Allison, who earned his doctorate in English Language and Literature at The University of Chicago, teaches a wide range of courses in English, American, and world literature. In addition, he teaches introductory and advanced writing courses. He has published articles on both British and American authors, including Coleridge, Poe, Hawthorne, Melville, and James, as well as the overview of nineteenth-century American literature for The Johns Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory and Criticism. His current research focuses on violence and victimization in American literature.
