His teaching and research interests span various fields within Rhetoric/Composition: basic writing, argumentation, writing program administration, composition theory and pedagogy, classical rhetoric, professional writing, writing center theory and practice, civic engagement, service-learning pedagogy, and writing across the curriculum.

His work has appeared in WPA: Writing Program Administration, Praxis: A Writing Center Journal, Teaching English in the Two-Year College, and College English. He is the co-author of IDEAS & Aims for College Writing with Linda Copeland.
