Middle Level Education

The B.S.Ed  in Middle Level Education leads to teacher licensure with endorsements in middle grades (grades 5-8) literacy/language arts and a subject area of their choice (middle grades mathematics, middle grades social science, or middle grades general science). Graduates are prepared to teach adolescents transitioning from childhood to adulthood.

Middle Grades Endorsement Requirements

Unless you have a K-12 certificate, you must have a middle grade endorsement on either your elementary or secondary certificate in order to teach grades 5-8. To become eligible for this endorsement you must complete the required number of hours in the specific content field(s) and complete courses focused on teaching in the middle grades. Click here for an explanation of the undergraduate or graduate coursework required. After December 2017, addition of a middle grade endorsement (grades 5-8) to a license will require completion of a full Middle Level Education program.
