EIU Department of Educational Leadership

Educational Administration

Specialist Degree in Educational Administration (EDS).  The mission of the Specialist in Educational Leadership (EDL) is to provide more advanced and intensive graduate study of educational administration.

This degree requires a minimum of 33 semester hours above the Master's Degree.

Superintendents Endorsement Program (SEP).  Individuals admitted to the EDS program who hold a general Administrator or Principal Endorsement, and have a minimum of two (2) years administrative experience in possession of that endorsement, are also eligible to apply to the SEP.  Upon completion of SEP and passage of the required test(s), individuals are eligible for the Illinois Superintendent Endorsement. 

 The required coursework in EDS and EDS/SEP are as follows:

  •      EDA 6200 Evaluating Student Achievement (4 semester hours)
  •      EDA 6600 Organizational Development in Educational Administration (4)
  •      EDA 6650 Superintendent of Schools (4)
  •      EDA 6700 Planning and Evaluation of Instructional Programs (3)
  •      EDA 6800 Current Issues in Educational Administration (4)
  •      EDA 6810 School Operations and the Law Seminar (2)
  •      EDA 6850 School Plant Planning (2)
  •      EDA 6860 School Finance (3)
  •      EDA 6870 Collective Bargaining (3)
  •      EDA 6910A Field Experience in Educational Administration (2)*
    • * Requires admission to SEP, while all others will substitute a different course.
  •      EDA 6910B Field Experience in Educational Administration (2)*
    • * Requires admission to SEP, while all others will substitute a different course.

      All hours included in a student's plan of study MUST be within a 6-year time limit preceding receipt of the degree.
