Eligibility for Accommodations & Services

In order to fully evaluate requests for accommodations or auxiliary aids and to determine eligibility for services, OSDS requires disability documentation that is specific to each disability.

Although information from high school (such as IEP’s and 504 Plans) may be helpful in determining accommodations in college, the laws governing disabilities in post-secondary education are very different, therefore, additional documentation will be required. For more information about the differences between high school and college, see: The Big Difference.

Specific documentation requirements for various disabilities and additional guidelines developed to assist prospective students in obtaining appropriate documentation may be found by clicking the appropriate link below or by calling our office at 217-581-6583.

It is important to check on documentation requirements as soon as possible due to the amount of time involved in obtaining some types of documentation. Once OSDS receives the documentation, it is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
