Let all of our hard work payoff.
You've gone to class, written papers, researched until your fingers cramp up...why not let all of that hard work payoff in a GREAT JOB!! Take advantage of this excellent opportunity. Employers are coming here to see YOU!
Interviews @ Eastern!
Typically in the days and weeks following the Job & Internship Fair, many employers schedule interview dates. They use the Job & Internship Fair to pre-screen potential candidates. Give yourself the advantage and inside edge to secure that interview!
Applying online just isn't enough.
Employers "flag" potential candidates that they meet at career fairs. Although you still have to apply online with many employers, you will have the advantage over other applicants because you met with that employer face-to-face and made a great impression.
Not all jobs are listed in the Classifieds.
Uncover those opportunities in the "hidden job market". Many jobs are not advertised by employers. Attend the Job & Internship Fair and find out where and what they are.
Explore employment options.
Learn a great deal more about employers than just surfing their websites. Meet recruiters in person to get a feel for the organization's culture and employment opportunities.
Working the room actually does work!
Employers remember students who attend every year! What better way to make a lasting impression on a potential employer? They will be asking to speak to you at the next Job & Internship Fair.
Employers hire from their internship pool FIRST to fill full time positions. Ask about internships--even if they aren't necessarily posted. Many internship positions (especially spring and summer) are filled in the FALL!
The more you attend, the more relaxed and confident you will feel about approaching and speaking with employers. Familiarize yourself with how the event works, so that next year you will be ready.
Do a little detective work.
Investigate career fields you could pursue with your specific major or background. Ask questions, even if you haven't declared a major. Start planning for your future now--even at a career fair!
Internships are your way in to a full time job!
Speak with employers regarding internship opportunities and application procedures. Most internships are done during the junior year--so start thinking early.
Summer work experience.
Employers from all over the U.S. come to EIU to recruit students for summer and/or seasonal jobs. Get that real work experience now, especially if you are unable to do an internship. It looks great on a resume!
Be your own salesperson.
Get experience marketing your skills and abilities to employers. Ask questions, build contacts--it's never to early to start networking. Employers are often impressed when freshmen and sophomores introduce themselves at career fairs and show an interest in their organizations.
That confidence factor!
Gain confidence in speaking with recruiters early in your academic career. Work on your communication skills and get comfortable carrying on a conversation with an employer. It will make a huge difference during your junior and senior years.
