Title: An introduction to the Cheeger constant
Abstract: The Cheeger constant of a manifold, or graph, is a measure of how "efficiently" one may separate, or disconnect, the object in question. Although not a fine invariant, it turns out to be related to other geometric invariants. In this talk, we'll compute some examples, and, time permitting, I'll explain how the Cheeger constant has helped me study certain hyperbolic surfaces.
