VERNON CISNEY will present "Something to do with a Girl Named Marla: Eros and Gender in Fincher's Fight Club, at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, October 10th, in Doudna Lecture Hall. The talk engages with the gamut of philosophical literature on the film and raises broader questions about the extent to which art can be philosophical. Cisney offers a Taoist reading of the presentation of gender in the film and argues against a misogynistic, masculinist, celebration of virility, violence, and white make angst. Cisney is a Mattoon native, a graduate of LakeLand Community College and a 2004 EIU Philosophy Alumnus. He completed his PhD at Purdue and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor At Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.
The talk is free and open to the public.Categories: Academic Calendar | Academic/Event Scheduling | Alumni | Art Department | Arts and Entertainment | Asian American Association | Center for the Humanities | College of Liberal Arts and Sciences | Community | Current Students | Doudna Fine Arts Center | English Department | Faculty | Lectures/Seminars | Office of Student Programs | Philosophy | Pine Honors College | Prospective Students | TotalEIU | Women's Studies
